After the tough loss Friday night, Penn State returned home to a sold-out Rec Hall to take on Maryland.

Penn State won nine of ten bouts, with Brandon Meredith dropping a super close match with Brandon Cray at 125, 8-7. Six of those nine wins carried bonus points for the Lions. No. 3 Roman Bravo Young, No. 2 Nick Lee and No. 15 Seth Nevills all notched tech falls. Jarod Verkleeren had a major decision and both No. 1 Vincenzo Joseph and No. 1 Mark Hall had pins.

Joseph’s and Hall’s back-to-back pins at 165 and 174 gave the crowd some deja vu. Joseph worked Kyle Cochran’s shoulders to the mat early in the third and locked him up. He swiftly turned the Terrapin to his back and got the fall in 4:01 minutes. Hall stepped onto the mat shortly after and pulled the exact same, perfectly-executed cement mixer to put Maryland’s Phillip Spadafora to his back in just 51 seconds.

The PSU lineup saw a few fresh faces on Sunday, most likely just to give the starters a break before the long travel weekend coming up. Creighton Edsell stepped in at 184 instead of No. 9 Aaron Brooks and Austin Hoopes wrestled at 197 instead of No. 18 Shakur Rasheed. Both Nittany Lions putting up decision wins.

The Lions’ record now stands at 8-2 as they prepare for the trek to the Midwest this weekend to face two more powerhouse Big Ten opponents. On Friday, February 7, Penn State will face Wisconsin at 9pm then match with Minnesota on Sunday, February 9 at 2pm. Both duals will be on the Big Ten Network.
