It was a banner week for No. 17 Women’s Lacrosse (5-3) as they powered past Albany and Drexel this week.

Last weekend, the Lady Lions soared past Albany with a 17-7 win.

The game opened with Penn State coming out strong as Madison Carter (Davidsonville, Md.) found the twine in the first three minutes thanks to an assist from Shelby Wells (Timonium, Md.).

Although Albany was able to tie things up just minutes later, the Blue and White women returned to the lead thanks to a six-goal streak that was started by sophomore Kristin Roberto (Miller Place, N.Y.).

After Roberto’s initiating goal, Maggie Gallagher (Bel Air, Md.), Katie O’Donnell (West Chester, Pa.), Sophia Triandafils (Wading River, N.Y.) and Delaney Muldoon (Silver Spring, Md.) all scored a goal apiece to skyrocket the Lions to a 7-2 lead.

O’Donnell achieved her second goal of the day followed by freshman Triandafils’ second as well. All in all, the team headed into the locker room up 13-3 over Albany.

Sophomore Maria Auth (Street, Md.) kept Penn State in prime position when she opened up the second half with a hat-trick. First year Quinn Nicolai (Moorestown, N.J.) tallied her second goal of the game to give the Lions a 17-3 lead.

The Lions gave both goalies time in the cage with freshman Lucy Lowe (Cockeysville, Md.) recording three saves and sophomore Madison Cunningham (Davie, Fla.) stopping one shot in the second half.

On Thursday, the Lions yet again put up an impressive showing, this time defeating Drexel 22-9.

Carter stood out against Drexel by adding four goals to the 22-goal game while teammate Muldoon added two goals as well.

A smattering of 10 Blue and White players contributed to the high tally, with Gallagher, Kayla Brisolari (Crofton, Md.) and Katie Schluederberg (Elkridge, Md.) adding points to the board.

Auth and Triandafils helped close out a successful game alongside Katie Garvey (West Chester, Pa.), who all hammered home final goals as the clock ran out.

Lowe recorded seven stops and Cunningham locked in five against Drexel.

The women look to continue their success next weekend as they open up their Big Ten Conference play against Rutgers in New Jersey on Saturday at noon. Good luck, ladies!
