4 weeks 4 THON blog

It is rare to find something that Penn Staters take more pride in than THON. Penn State Dance Marathon, affectionately referred to as THON, is a 46-hour no sitting, no sleeping event held every February at the Bryce Jordan Center on the campus of Penn State University. It is a celebration of an entire year’s worth of fundraising for The Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Children’s Hospital. Since its creation in 1972, The Four Diamonds Fund has provided financial support, emotional support and so much more to families who have children conquering cancer. Additionally, the organization also provides research support and assistance at Penn State Children’s Hospital.

THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, raising over $137 million dollars since 1977. The Four Diamonds Fund is THON’s sole beneficiary and since its beginning has NEVER turned a family away. As a local business closely connected to the University, Lions Pride considers it a great honor to host its annual 4 Weeks 4 THON campaign where the four weeks leading up to THON, the store donates 20% of its in-store and online sales directly to THON.

Over the last nine years, Lions Pride’s 4 Weeks 4 THON promotion has been a huge success. When Lions Pride began 4 Weeks 4 THON in 2009, the store donated $17,222. Since that year, Lions Pride has donated nearly a quarter of a million dollars to THON’s efforts. Each year the promotion has grown and changed in a way to better benefit the pediatric cancer organization. Since 2010, Lions Pride has designed and sold a special 4 Weeks 4 THON t-shirt with all proceeds going directly to THON.

“As a father of two children and member of the Penn State community, THON has always hit close to home,” said store owner Steve Moyer. “As a Penn State alumnus, I take great pride in watching it grow each year. At Lions Pride, we are happy to participate in something that not only helps Four Diamonds families but also brings the Penn State community closer together.”

Penn State would not be what it is without THON and Lions Pride would not be able to support such a worthy organization without the help and support of the amazing Penn State community. Lions Pride’s loyal customers have ALWAYS stood behind the University and supported Lions Pride’s 4 Weeks 4 THON efforts. The locally owned and operated business is incredibly grateful to give back to an organization that sums up what it means to be Penn State proud!
