Penn State men’s soccer said goodbye to six of its seniors and earned the fourth shutout of the year Tuesday night at Jeffrey Field against Wright State. After a tough start to the season, the Lions were able to finish the regular season homestand 8-6-2 and earn another non-conference win.
Freshman Pierre Reedy scored his first-ever collegiate goal and the lone goal of the match for Penn State in the eighth minute of the game. Senior Connor Maloney assisted the goal with a pass outside of the box to Reedy. Reedy took his shot 19-yards out from goal and Wright State keeper Will Lukowski was unable to save the ball as it stormed into the bottom left corner of the net.
Penn State’s defense was able to stay strong throughout the remainder of the match and Evan Finney earned another shutout. Penn State had another strong chance in the second half as Sagel headed the ball on goal, but it was saved by the keeper.
This year, Penn State says goodbye to Connor Maloney, Robby Sagel, Mason Klerks, Riley Grant, Evan Finney and Malik Cameron. All of the Nittany Lions have had successful careers at Penn State, most notably Maloney who has received numerous Big Ten honors and other awards and leads the team in goals, assists, and points.
This weekend, the Nittany Lions head to Evanston, Ill. for their last regular season game against Northwestern. The match will kickoff at 1 PM.
